Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings - Soul Of A Woman - Daptone
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings' final studio album, Soul Of A Woman is a lush, orchestral masterpiece. A true testament to the life and career of Daptone's fearless leader and one of the world's greatest performers. In the year prior to her death from pancreatic cancer in 2016, Sharon Jones toured and performed tirelessly, and was also the subject of Miss Sharon Jones!, an acclaimed documentary by Oscar-Winning director Barbara Kopple. Yet somehow, the beloved and heroic soul singer found time to complete a studio album. Soul of a Woman features eleven songs which reveal that the emotion, dynamics, and drama of Jones' voice remained at full power until her final days. The songs on Soul Of A Woman exemplify two distinct sides of the band s sound. Side One showcases the grittier, bluesier material like Matter Of Time and Sail On giving Sharon the room to flex her vocal prowess, creating a liveness that few studio albums possess. Side Two takes on a more sophisticated orchestral mood. Tracks like When I Saw Your Face and These Tears (No Longer For You), capture a soft vulnerability in Sharon's vocals that draws you deep inside, and yet they remain nuanced with the signature toughness that never allow you to forget she's steering the ship. The finished product is an album that captures a band and a singer at their peak.
Mavis Staples - If All I Was Was Black - Anti
“Mavis has done it all and worked with just about everybody from Bob Dylan to Prince to Jeff Tweedy… She still is singing for justice and equality and influencing a new generation of musicians and fans.” -PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA. Mavis Staples is an American Music legend. She was at the forefront of the civil rights movement in the 1960’s, as singer for the legendary gospel group, The Staples Singers. Mavis, along with her father, Pops, and siblings marched and worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr on the fight for equality in this country. In December 2016, Mavis went to Washington, DC to receive the coveted Kennedy Center Honors from President Obama, with whom she has had a long standing friendship. Mavis invited Wilco frontman and dear friend, Jeff Tweedy as her guest for the weekend’s festivities. The two spent hours discussing the current events and how today’s fight for equality is very similar to those in the 60’s. Inspired by these events, Mavis and Jeff got together and wrote Mavis’ new album, If All I Was Was Black, produced by Jeff Tweedy. The new album is a perfect message for our time and is by far Mavis’ best work to date.
Black Sabbath - The End - Eagle Records
Almost five decades ago, the toll of a bell and rolling thunder marked the conception of an ear splittingly monolithic riff. In that moment, Black Sabbath and the sound of Heavy Metal were forged. The band embarked on what Ozzy describes as the most incredible adventure you could think of, a journey that would go on to define a genre. The End is a celebration of Black Sabbath's final hometown concert at Birmingham's Genting Arena on February 4th, 2017. With a hit packed set list including Iron Man, Paranoid, War Pigs, and many more, the high production values, visual effects, and pyrotechnics wowed fans, as the band delivered the most emotionally charged show in their history. The End captures a once-in-a-career performance, an essential snapshot of musical history, and a fitting farewell to true innovators and original heavy metal icons, Black Sabbath. Featuring Ozzy Osbourne (vocals); Tony Iommi (guitar) and Geezer Butler (bass), with Tommy Clufetos (drums) and Adam Wakeman (keyboards / guitar).

Honed by the extensive touring that took them around the world and back during the preceding 12 months, the mighty rock and soul band tore through a tight set packed with favorites such as 'I Need Never Get Old,' 'Look It Here,' 'Shake,' 'Howling at Nothing' and 'Wasting Time.' Angel Olsen - Phases - Jagjaguwar
How do you best describe Angel Olsen? From the lo-fi, sparse folk-melancholy of her 2010 EP, Strange Cacti, to the electrified, polished rock 'n' roll bursting from 2016's beloved and acclaimed MY WOMAN, Olsen has refused to succumb to a single genre, expectation, or vision. Impossible to pin down, Olsen navigates the world with her remarkable, symphonic voice and a propensity for narrative, her music growing into whatever shape best fits to tell the story. Phases is a collection of Olsen's work culled from the past several years, including a number of never-before-released tracks. "Fly On Your Wall," previously contributed to the Bandcamp-only, anti-Trump fundraiser Our First 100 Days, opens Phases, before seamlessly slipping into "Special," a brand new song from the MY WOMAN recording sessions. Both "How Many Disasters" and "Sans" are first-time listens: home-recorded demos that have never been released, leaning heavily on Olsen's arresting croon and lonesome guitar. The B-sides compilation is both a testament to Olsen's enormous musical range and a tidy compilation of tracks that have previously been elusive in one way or another. Balancing tenacity and tenderness, Phases acts as a deep-dive for longtime fans, as well as a fitting introduction to Olsen's sprawling sonics for the uninitiated.

ASHEVILLE -- Riding the wave of their critically acclaimed 2015 album, Lost at Last, Jon Stickley Trio independently releases their 3rd full length album, Maybe Believe, on May 12, 2017. Jon Stickley Trio combines Jon Stickley’s rapid-fire flatpicking guitar with the sultry and wild, yet refined, melodies of Lyndsay Pruett on violin set over the deep groove of Patrick Armitage on drums.
“The latest record from the Jon Stickley Trio flexes new and strong muscles, utilizing more progressive structures and deeper pockets than ever before,” says Producer Dave King (Of The Bad Plus). “All the while, the group retains its place as a modern-thinking acoustic ensemble with one foot in tradition and the other in a bluegrass honored future that allows for the avant garde, punk, and be bop to mix in freely and tastefully.”Read more...
“I’m thankful that some people still focus on albums and physical copies,” said Steve Martin Founder of Ignition Music Garage. “The story of vinyl records is one of the few bright spots in a rapidly changing music business. I believe we need to make a statement that artists, record labels, producers, engineers, concert venues and record stores are valuable contributors to the quality of our lives. Something powerful happens when we listen in the air, together.”
(from RSD Website) This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances.
Ignition will once again be featuring; Food, Goshen Brewing Beer, Limited Edition Vinyl and Live music. Last year over 500 people gathered downtown to celebrate Record Store Day with us. We have hundreds of RSD titles ordered as well as special record label deals. “It is hard to believe that the vinyl renaissance led by Record Store Day is only 10 years old, we’re proud to have been here for the majority of them.”
“This year we are encouraging people to bring their treasured collectors’ albums to spin on 91.1 The Globe during their live broadcast. There are some very significant recordings that only surfaced for Record Store Days past, it’s time to get them out and give them a spin with all your friends.”
We decided to close the day with a national touring act on our stage and are honored to have two; Penny & Sparrow and Lowland Hum. Penny & Sparrow are on Single Lock / Thirty Tigers. John Paul White (Civil Wars) and Ben Tanner (Alabama Shakes) produced their record, “Let a Lover Drown You”.
Check out the single “Finery” to hear their finely meshed voices over a great lyric.

Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008. Today there are Record Store Day participating stores on every continent except Antarctica.
This is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, DJs spinning records, and on and on. In 2008 a small list of titles was released on Record Store Day and that list has grown to include artists and labels both large and small, in every genre and price point. In 2015, 60% of the Record Store Day Official Release List came from independent labels and distributors. The list continues to include a wide range of artists, covering the diverse taste of record stores and their customers.
While there’s only one Record Store Day a year, the organization works with both independent and and major labels throughout the year to create contests, special releases and promotions in order to spotlight the benefits of supporting these independent, locally owned stores with music purchases throughout the year. In 2010, Record Store Day coodinated its first Black Friday event, which gives record stores exclusive releases as part of the attempt to redirect the focus of the biggest shopping day of the year to the desirable, special things to be found at local stores.
Record Store Day is currently managed by Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton, in coordination with Michael Bunnell and Eric Levin. Folks wanting to contact Record Store Day are encouraged to email us at email@example.com
A message from the folks at Record Store Day RSD 17 Releases
Ten years ago, we celebrated the first Record Store Day and since then we've consistently tried to keep our promotion of your stores fresh and give you, customers and the press new things to talk about. Our Black Friday event, special single/coupon promotions year-round, Vinyl Tuesday and Indie Exclusive Color Vinyl are all examples of those things and as a way to mark our tenth anniversary, we're launching the Record Store Day Vinyl Club.
Vinyl subscription services abound these days, and in some ways, that's a great thing: the more invested in physical formats people are, the more they'll look to you as they fill out their collections. But subscription services cut record stores out completely. Our Record Store Day Vinyl Club does not. The releases we put out branded as Record Store Day Vinyl Club will be limited edition (most pressed to order!) and will only be available at your stores at regular intervals throughout the year. We are working now with artists, managers and labels to choose titles for the Club. These may be special reissues (of classic albums and in some cases limited edition RSD titles), newly created compilations or releases, EPs, full lengths, double albums or box sets. The content will always be curated and approved by a panel of record stores and RSD Vinyl Club titles will be solicited to RSD stores only. These will cover all genres, and you'll have the opportunity to bring in which ever titles you think will work for your stores and customers. (Full disclosure: RSD will also sell a very small number of these titles, and these titles only--not regular Record Store Day or Black Friday titles--on our website, but always at a higher price (plus shipping) than your pricing will be. We are not changing our mission of driving customers into your stores.)
We know what our first three Record Store Day Vinyl Club releases will be:
